Who is eligible to take part in the UCL President's Cup? The UCL President's Cup is a novice university-level debating competition, and the point of this is to exclude experienced speakers, used to the IV (Inter-Varsity) climate. Those who have debated at a school level are more than welcome to come as are those who have only taken part in internal competitions within their university. Complete novices - those who have not taken part in school debating - are particularly welcome. The UCL Union Debating Society encourages people from all backgrounds to come along to the President's Cup. Please Note though, as seasoned debaters will know, almost every open IV (ie. LSE, Durham, BPP etc.) seems to be full of school kids these days. If you are one of those kids starting out at Uni please do come. However, if you have broken to the final at one of these open IV’s before you will not be eligible to break to the final at the Presidents cup as- if you can already beat that many people on the IV circuit you are not really a university level novice! |
