About the UCL President's Cup The UCL President's Cup is the largest novice IV (Inter-Varsity) debating competition in Europe, and has become a regular feature in the British debating calendar. Last year it was held on the 14th October 2007, and had nearly sixty teams competing, making it one of the largest novice IVs in the world. This year the President's cup will be held on Saturday the 13th October 2007. There will be four rounds of debate with semis and a final, with debates being carried out according to British Parliamentary (BP) rules - each debate with four teams of two speakers. Prizes are yet to be decided. The President's Cup is one of two IVs held by the UCL Union Debating Society, the other being the UCL IV, which will be held this academic year in early 2008. More information about the society and the UCL IV is available on the society website. UCL Union Debating Society's competitions are organised by IV Convenor Josh Blacker, who can be contacted at iv@debating.org. |
